Discover the Art of Round Dance

A Choreographed Dance for All

Round Dance is a form of choreographed and cued ballroom dancing that includes popular rhythms such as foxtrot, waltz, cha-cha, rumba, and more. Unlike freestyle social ballroom dancing, each Round Dance is fully choreographed to fit the music perfectly. A beautiful piece of music is selected, and specific dance steps or figures are chosen to match the mood and flow of the song. For example, if the music swells and pauses, a graceful step that rises and stretches is choreographed to match. If there's syncopation, a quick, lively step might be added.

What sets Round Dancing apart is the presence of a cuer, or leader, who stands at the front and guides the dancers by calling out the steps. As the music plays, the cuer announces each dance figure just ahead of the beat, allowing dancers to perform without needing to memorize the entire choreography. This approach is similar to square dancing, where a caller directs the dancers through the routine.
